Shepherd now supports documentation workflows for both MSHA Part 46 and Part 48 hazard awareness training.
The new functionality allows operations to use Shepherd to generate documentation for Part 48 hazard awareness training provided to visitors, guests, and applicable contractors. This includes a Shepherd-generated alternative Form 5000-23 designed to capture the required training record information in a clear, consistent format.
A Shepherd-generated alternative Form 5000-23 has already been approved for use to aid the operations of a specific customer. Because approval of alternative forms is operation-specific, each organization remains responsible for confirming and completing any approval requirements that apply to its locations.
Before this update, operations using Shepherd for Part 48 hazard training were still being required to prepare separate Form 5000-23 documentation outside the platform.
The new workflow allows applicable training information to be documented digitally within Shepherd. Once an administrator selects the appropriate Training Type for a location, Shepherd generates the corresponding Part 46 or Part 48 agreement PDF.
This can help operations:
Shepherd facilitates and records the training process. It does not conduct, certify, or replace the training required by an operation.
Each mine or operation remains responsible for determining its training requirements, delivering the appropriate training, maintaining accurate location information, and meeting all applicable regulatory obligations.
For Part 48, the new Shepherd workflow is specifically intended to document applicable hazard awareness training for visitors, guests, and contractors.
Every completed Shepherd agreement is timestamped and stored so authorized administrators can quickly determine who completed training, when it occurred, and which location requirements were acknowledged.
By expanding its documentation capabilities to include Part 48, Shepherd gives organizations a more consistent way to manage training records while maintaining the flexibility required across different operations and locations.
